A Brand New Year, A Brand New You

People are excited when a new year unfolds. It gives us a chance to start things anew. This year, we decided to spring-clean not only our homes, but our bodies as well. Here are some ways to do just that.

In Fitness and In Health

TAKE THE TWO WEEK TEST. One of our favorite books about health and wellness is Dr. Phil Maffetone’s In Fitness and In Health . This book is a must read if you want to know how you can jumpstart your lifestyle to one that will benefit your fitness level and health condition. The book has a two-week start-up program that will teach you how to know your body. You can order a copy of this great book through Planet Green Market (+63922 895 3975) and read more info about the book here.

VISIT A BIO-DENTIST. The condition of our mouth is a reflection of the condition of our health. Our tongue’s color can reveal if we are healthy or not. According to the book The Cure for All Diseases by Hulda Regehr Clark, root canal and amalgams cause many health problems and must all be removed. Two dentists that always come up when we ask our network are Dr. Herminia P. Chavez of Queen Mary Holistic Center in Medical Plaza, Ortigas Centre in Pasig City (+632 638 3901) and Dr. Nelson Mari L. Gaba of Biodent in Alabang 400 Village in Alabang, Muntinlupa (+632 807 2696). Schedule a visit soon.

DETOX YOUR BODY. Our bodies need to be cleansed at least twice a year. Some of the body cleansing we need to do are kidney cleanse and liver cleanse. The ideal program is in this order: parasite cleansing, kidney cleansing and liver cleansing. The best time to do this is after fixing all your dental works with a bio-dentist.

DEVELOP THE HABIT OF DRINKING ENOUGH WATER EVERYDAY. Dr. Nigel Chen of Life Force always reminds his patients that the 8-glasses a day habit was taught to us when we were still in grade school. As we get older (and bigger), our water consumption should also be adjusted accordingly. A good estimate is four 8oz. glasses of water for every 50 lbs. weight. More if you are an athlete or exercises regularly.

EAT AS MUCH FRUITS AND VEGETABLES. In her book, Greater Health God’s Way, Stormie Omartian explains that eating 50% or more fruits is a good way to start your day. Definitely, your sources of fruits and vegetables matter. Choose organic as much as possible. Weekend markets such as Salcedo Market and Legaspi Market both sell organic fruits and vegetables. If you find Sagada oranges in one of these markets, buy it and buy a lot. Sagada oranges are oh-so-heavenly sweet and yummy. Oranges are packed with Vitamin C, Thiamin, Folate and Potassium. It is also a very good source of dietary fiber. Try it for breakfast.

EXERCISE REGULARLY. A 20-minute brisk walk or jogging two to three times a week is good enough to start your exercise program. You may add more minutes as you become more comfortable with it. This is better than inconsistently doing a 60-minute running program. The goal is consistency.

Do you have a regular exercise program?
