One of the essential secrets for youthful, radiant skin is in your facial cleanser.
In his book, “How To Wash Your Faceâ€, Dr. Barney J. Kenet, M.D. recommends soap-free cleansers to his patients because they are gentle and effective for removing make-up and dirt. But, even if these cleaners are gentle, he strongly advises that we shouldn’t wash our skin too often. He said that regardless of what kind of skin, we will become uncomfortable at one point if we overwash. If our skin feels itchy or dry, he suggests that before we worry about an exotic disease, we should think about our shower/bathing habits first because they are often to blame.
To wash your face, Dr. Kenet suggests these simple steps:
- First, dampen your face with tepid water.
- Place a quarter-sized amount of cleanser in your palm and then apply an even coat to your face.
- Massage gently with your fingertips.
- Rinse with tepid water, pat dry and moisturize.
Among all the Philippine-produced organic beauty products that we have tried and tested so far, Clean Slate is our first choice when it comes to local organic facial cleansers.
Compared to other local and imported counterparts, Clean Slate rated high in our sensitivity tests. It is soap-free and is a triple-duty beauty product: cleanser, toner and make-up remover for all skin types. It is made of grade A royal jelly base which thoroughly cleanses without drying; organic pineapple extract which is nature’s natural toner, and; our very own, world renowned wild Philippine ylang-ylang infusion which has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. Other premium ingredients added were honey, beeswax, goat or soy milk (upon request), oat extract, a-tocopherol (vitamin E), grapeseed extract, and organic coconut extract.
Used over the period of one month on ultra-sensitive skin types, this great-smelling product cleanses gently, never caused any breakouts, and it is so easy to use. There were no bubbles when we tried to lather it on our faces but after rinsing it with water, our skin felt tingly clean and soft! Remember, mild cleansers don’t make lather but that doesn’t mean they aren’t doing a great job.
As suggested by Neva Kares, the beauty and brain behind Leyende, we religiously used Face Canvas after Clean Slate. Again, we liked the fact that this product made our beauty regimen one step easier. It is an all-skin type moisturizer and smooth, silicone-free face base in one. Even people with oily skin can butter up their faces with Face Canvas. It is made of unrefined organic mango butter for superior moisturized skin with protection (has natural SPF); organic carrot extract which acts as a natural potent antioxidant, and; organic sweet almond oil (we love almond oil!) which helps retain the skin’s moisture. Other ingredients in Face Canvas are ylang-ylang infusion, grade A beeswax, deionized water, virgin coconut oil, soy lecithin, Vitamin E and organic vanilla oil.

What are the ingredients in your facial cleanser?

Hi Joey!
When you say that Face canvas has a natural SPF, does it mean that I don’t need to put sunscreen containing SPF anymore?
thanks!
Some people put SPF15 daily as additional protection for their skin. So if your purpose is as simple or basic as that, then you can skip your daily sunscreen already. But, if you’re going out and you will be under the sun for more than 30 minutes between 10am til 4pm, we suggest you add your favorite sunscreen, too. Thanks Mrs. Our Awesome Planet for dropping by Pinoy Organics!
Hello, where can I buy your products? I want to try Clean Slate and Face Canvas. Btw, how much are they?
thanks!!
ANG BANGO NG FACE CANVAS!!! It’s so yummy I’m so tempted to buy one na. Kaso ang dami ko pang moisturizer ek. My skin is so sensitive that there’s only one product that can seem to tame it e. Mejo expensive nga lang kc it lasts me only 2 weeks. maybe less :C
My skin is extra sensitive, too, and I was surprised I did not develop any rashes with Face Canvas. Try their trial size when you run out of moisturizer. Jhoey
I couldn’t help but buy the trial size. buti na lang meron. the smell is just super yummy talaga 🙂
Are the products validated hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic? I’m interested to try it.
From Leyende:
No, Leyende is not validated “hypoallergenic” or “non-comedogenic”. Here is what the USFDA has to say about “hypoallergenic” products:
“the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) counsels that consumers should realize that no federal standards or regulations exist governing the use of the term hypoallergenic. In other words, the decision as to whether or not a cosmetic may be labeled as hypoallergenic lies solely with the manufacturer. And this term may be applied without any demonstration or proof that the product causes fewer allergic reactions than others. ”

In short, they are saying that “hypoallergenic” is simply a marketing term that is based on manufacturer’s claims (and not validated by any legitimate certifying body at all). Anyone can claim they are hypoallergenic without having gone through rigorous testing.
Leyende products don’t claim to be hypoallergenic/non-comedogenic simply because to us it wouldn’t be possible. No two skin types are exactly the same so there will always be someone who will react to our products unfavorably. There are even people who are allergic to the seemingly most mundane things such as ionized water or even air!
While our ingredients are sourced from certified organic sources and sulfate and paraben-free, to claim that our products are hypoallergenic is ill-advised and is not a truthful representation to our valued customers.
